Tai Chi is a moving meditation based on the Chinese system of external movements coupled with internal energetics. Tai chi works on the development of the body’s internal vital energy (Chi) as opposed to external strength only.
The slow motion speed of Tai Chi creates balance, flexibility and calmness. With an emphasis on deep breathing and using mental imagery, Tai Chi integrates your mind with your body, and is very effective at relieving stress.
Even though Tai Chi is first and foremost a martial art, in this class the emphasis is on energy development and is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. Because it is difficult to generate much internal energy (Chi) while learning the moving meditation part of Tai Chi a standing meditation form is also taught as a “jump start” for developing the internal energy.
